  • Another option would be a SuperTrapp muffler.

  • Oh cool. Thank you for the info

  • You'd have to be really careful about the length, and inlet/outlet diameters...When I had my first jiangwayne exhaust, (The upswept version, that got involved with the right cover.) modded at a custom muffler shop to lower it enough to clear the cover, the 5" of tube they used did wierd things to my powerband....It moved it back 500rpms and enrichened the mixture. So, It appears that a little changes a lot in the exhaust .

finally got the second c3 fixed (been sitting needing a new rear wheel/axle for quite a bit), so now that can be used for the long trips (take a little pressure off of mine- they're the same age and mine has ~9k more miles on it!). my c3 has been super-reliable through the whole wait (except a couple vapor-lock issues last summer. still gonna call about pump), but now it looks like the battery has decided to die on me. :/ original battery, 10.5k miles, ride at least twice a week all year long... is 4 yrs an average life-span? • Oh man its a dream. I climb hills faster and get to the top speed faster as well. Also increased my top end Speed too. I am saving for a Racing Variator as well.

  • Cause now she gets to the top speed and she wants to go faster so she is making that popping noise when she is at top speed. So a variator is in order to get her to the top speed she wants to be at.

  • I figure I am at 50 now. I wonder how much faster she will go if I do the variator switch.

    • Should I have my Prodigy variator + Dr.pully removed before I bring it back for the gasket recall?

    • If you're talking about the recall to install that rubber seal around your fuel pump, they won't have to go anywhere near your variator to install it.

    • Thats good to know. Thanks

    • true bruce noticeable change in this ride with a taller tire no change in speed but overall gearing

    • I put a 130/90/10 in the back and a 130/70/10 i n the front. getting exact mph. well thats before my bike did 50. hahaha

    • If you've been hitting the rev limiter. (With the stock tire on back wearing a bit thin, it can happen.) The 130 rear tire often puts a stop to it. An aftermarket variator like the Dr.Pulley, that has the ramps going allthe way to the top, will too.

Just as a warning to all Star Riders: Check the screws on the underside of your gas cap!! I heard a rattling in my gas tank when I took it off to get at the carbs and Binged "rattling in V Star Gas Tank." Turns out, the screws on the underside of your Star's gas cap are notorious for coming loose. If you lose both screws from the gas cap, the thing can disassemble itself and you'll have to use a prybar to get the cap off. One of mine is somewhere in the tank, and the other one took almost a full turn to tighten it back up.

Going to go into the tank with a magnetic part finder and see if I can't get the other screw back in and then use some Red Loctite to seal them in. Just FYI.

      • Walmart. That's where I got mine.

      • Thanks for the ideas... I've used saddlebags for awhile but the only ones that fit (don't hit the pipes) mount under the rear seat so i can't just take them on and off without a lot of screwing around. I don't really like the look of the bike with them on all the time either. I also have a pack that i can strap to the back rest but it rubs the fender. I'm trying to avoid that. I will check Amazon... don't know why i didn't think of that earlier!

Today I finally got to install my Dr. Pulley HIT Clutch. I will say its a nice clutch. I am going to dial it in on monday. This clutch has two sets of springs. The spring colors are way different from the Red,Yellow and Blues ones were all use too. They have about six to seven different spring to work with. Right now I am running small Black ones and blue larger ones. I am going to switch the black one out for the purple ones for better off the line performence. But really the way its set up I am pretty happy. I get to my top speed quicker and loose less speed climing hills. So all in all well worht the price tag for this clutch. Yes I got mine slightly used from Gabe. but I would have shelled out the coin to get it anyways. now time to save for the Dr Pulley Variator set up. I will definatly gain more top speed. Cause right now she want to go faster but she cant because of the stock variator. STOKED!!!

      • I'm told that doing that mod, along with inserting the restricting washer behind your variator (with the DP 3.5/4gr sliders) works very well together. And, you don't have to shell out $150 of your hard earned $$$ for the DP variator.

      • Because I'm geared so tall, my stock variator out pulls my DP variator. Once the shop's finished & I have room. I'm reinstalling the stock gearing, stock airbox, & DP variator, and I'm going to play with different setups, to get back top speed and fuel mileage lost with the quest to go 50mph.

Moving the restriction washer behind the variator Proved to be a deception, probably because of my 200lb ass an because I had the stock rollers. I lost some torque and lost some top speed. Finally, after several days of searching, I found an "unnamed," official at Yamaha Headquarters in Japan, that was willing to give me the unlisted # you're using....If you folks don't call the number, and keep going to the Dealer instead... Yamaha will go back into,"Hide and Watch," mode again! "Pump problem....? What pump problem....? We have no pump problems...!" Bruce Gabriel Now I can ride it 200 miles in comfort (Corbin saddle) and average 70mpg, running 65mph. You don't want to know about the co$t involved! But, it's waaayyy less, than buying a larger scooter that's nowhere near as comfortable or efficient!

The yamaha dealer finally figured out that my fuel pump was shot. Been telling them that and finally they check it and yep it's dead. Now to see if Yamaha will pay to fix it!

      • Update: Fuel pump was replaced under warranty with no expense to me. When I picked up my C3 at the dealer today, there was yet another yammy blue C3 there which had it's fuel pump replaced as well.

      • I need mine replaced also.

      • Hey Christopher! Welcome! There's enough ammo here for you to get it replaced! Call 800 962 7926!

I have 1100 Custom and they have just released the mephis batwing fairing for my bike. Has anyone else ever got the batwing for there bike? How have you liked it and did it enhance and improve the appearance of your bike? Does it really look that good all over or does it just look good from a distance? I have been struggling on whether I want to go this direction or not. Do not know if it just looks cheap and imitation of real fairing and the look of a bagger bike or not. What are yall's thoughts? Any thoughts or suggestions?

          I got my 6k. mi. service — Yamaha C3

I got my 6k (mi) service.

          Real nice!

Brakes tight, engine quieter and smoove, real sweet.

          But, there is a catch.

They adjusted the belt, and now she has great strength at top end, and cruises nicely on flat and downhill, but crawls up hills. Sigh...

          • As the stock washer was there to begin with I am sure they didn't put one in, though with all of our conversations they might well have done me the favor of taking it out.

I love the top end speed, I just wish I didn't have to sacrifice to get it.

          • huh. I've got >10k miles on the original belt. last tune-up was at ~8k, guy at the shop said it was still looking great. was thinking of going to dealer for next one just because of the mileage (but I prefer my local scooter shop).

          • Most of the better Yamaha maintenance shops, replace time sensitive items like drive belts, + airfilters as close to the replacement miles as possible, to not only cover their their tails, warranty-wise, also to look out for their customers. It's no fun to push & coast a 200lb scooter, 4 or 5 miles when it's 90 degrees outside!

          • My boppers were better than stock in the rain, so I liked them.

          • Anything is better than stock in the rain, in the dry for that matter! lol!

The place has not been picked, but I'll promote it to as may people and shops as i can. I'll send messages to everyone on kijiji that is selling their Max in Alberta and ask them to truck, trailer or ride their Max to the Meet & Greet. I'd like to have a small ride, but not being familiar with the area, I'd like some help to set that up if the ride happens. Let me know what you think, and if you would attend. I have a small sugestion to all members here, I wish all bikers, not just us maxers, would read keith code's twist of the wrist books. if you have, maybe read them again. My life was saved today (second time) because of his teachings. I avoided a left turner on a two lane who saw me then stopped, I was 13 feet from the van, doing 45. I did not go down, but faught my way around him!!!! I am 43 and only weigh 125. I credit keith for the knowledge, reflexes taught by him, and the good grace of god for me being here tonight. And don't forget full and proper maintenance! I hope you are all having a fun and safe holiday.

              • We have both books and the DVD. We review them all regularly. Glad you are ok.

              • i have 2 simple rules that i live by when i am on the bike or in the car and i pass them on to any one who will listen. rule # 1- if you see a car with the turn signle on, you only know that the signle works. rule #2- no one is ever waiting or watching for you. meaning that the car in the intersection is doing any thing (texting, messing with the radio, or yelling at the kids) but waiting for you.

                • Only early '07 models were affected.Somebody, somewhere, had an improperly hear treated con-rod/crank shaft come apart. I don't like to think about being on anything going 35-40mph & having that happen! I had 2,300 troublefree miles on my scoot at the time... Thinking about that, made me go ahead + have the replacement done. If you do have it done, it's really easy for the mechanic doing the job, to flat spot the grease seal that keeps gearbox lube away from the variator, when he installs the new crank. So...when you go to fetch your scoot, once they say it's finished. Allow several extra hours for you to test ride your scooter. (It takes at least 15 miles to get the lube hot enough, to be thin enough, to get past a bad grease seal.) and stop and look for oil leaking from the transmission. This way, you've got time to return to the shop, & wait while they do it right!

                • Again, If you'll call 800 962 7926 With your vin # handy. They'll tell you if the recall applies to your scooter.

                • I had the job done as well.

It is a pretty intense engine rebuild for the staff.

My mechanic powered through it fueled by a box of Dunkin Donuts coffee.

I haven't had any issues before or since.

I figured out that the rear Fattie Kit hub will fit my C3. Fattie Tire will be mine.

I measured the tire and rim to make sure that the new tire wheel set up will be the same and its perfect just a bit wider. I will have to swing the pipe out a little 1/2 inch maybe. Get a spacer and buy a longer bolt and Nut for the Pipe mount. Pretty excited about this. Also looking at racing Clutches and Bells. I'am thinking..with the new tire set up. It might be nice to have the clutch to match the new look. Put up or Shut up...lol Stay Tuned...

You have to be persistant in calling them (in California) early in the morning, to get that Lady that's been authorizing replacement pumps. I heard back from one man that finally got tired of the Bs,and got their address from the operator. He wrote a letter to them, in care of, "The lady at Yamaha Customer Relations," that knows about the C3 Scooter fuel Pump problems, who has been authorizing Dealers to do free replacement!" He told her what his vin # was, & what the symptoms were. In about ten days or so, they called him & arranged to replace his pump! Gabe

Just got off the phone with Yamaha. Nice people but I was told to call my dealer first then make an appointment to go down there and see if that is the problem. I was told that there is no Recall on these pumps and that it might not be covered by Yamaha. So I called one of two local dealers and talked with service. he to said there is not a recall on these pumps. I explained to him that the product rep said it might be covered under an emission. He is researching and calling me back. He said he may have to call Yamaha also. So here i am waiting for the call. The only thing I think is on my side i am a guy that alot of people know in my town because of my Hookah Lounge called Smiley's. He seemed to perk up when I gave him my shop number and the name Smiley's Ultimate Hookah Lounge. So I hope this all works out and he tries to help me.

                  • Dealerships are not real crazy about doing warrenty repairs. they dont really make any money on them, they only get "credit" from Yamaha for stuff they order in the future.

                  • I did tell them that Rob. but the product rep told me again that I had to contact and take my bike to a dealer and see if thats the problem.

                  • No I do know that. About the dealers and Warrenties. I got screwed by the Honda dealer I bought my ruckus from. Also Honda did nothing about it. Never buy a Honda again.

                  • It's easy to go to a shoe shop and have them sew a new strap on.

                  • i run a small cable through the visor of my full-face helmet, attach the end to the bag hook under the seat to "lock" it, hang the helmet from the handlebar. or- you could buy a helmet bag. same idea but then it's in a water-proof/slash-proof bag.

                  • Of late, I've been running a 1/2" diameter stainless aircraft control cable through my fullface helmet the same way. Then, around a tree or light pole, etc. and through my rear wheel, locked with my 3 pound stainless Master H/D lock....It's not theft proof, but it will perhaps slow a determined or dumb thief down enough for me to ruin the rest of his year! lol!

                  • Gotcha, Nicanor. I was thinking specifically of the tail/brake light.
