Got this problem with a TDR 250 I bought in Germany... The bike has covered about 75,000 miles (!!!). I've fitted DEP silencers. I've had the stator checked and repaired and I have changed the spark plugs. The bike flies from 5-6thou on... But it is hesitating at low revs. The repair on the stator has made things better but it is still there. I've noticed now that the left hand silencer (coming from the exhaust of the front right hand barrel) is very oily! The other silencer looks normal... Coils? Carbs? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

  • the choke cables were stuck on mine also check the orange wire is tight on the coil connection

  • The crankcase seal could be opening up when it gets warm. The fact that it gets worse when it gets warm points to either the stator overheating or the jetting leaning out. I'd have the carbs apart and keep an eye on the gearbox oil.

  • Thanks to all of you for the information. I'll check the carbs first. Didn't touch them yet to be honest... Will need a TDR 250 manual. The original ones are hard to find unfortunately....

Hey everyone I have V star 650 classic in the spring I put in new clutch pads... — Yamaha V-Star riders

Hey everyone I have V-star 650 classic, in the spring I put in new clutch pads and fiction plates as well as Barnett heavy springs. The clutch has been great all year until I rode in a parade a month ago, in the parade the clutch got very soft when I would pull in the handle the clutch wouldn't release. Since then it now slips when the bike is at colder temps. I changed the oil using Yamaha oil from dealer and still same results. Once the bike is up to normal temps it's fine but if I park it, grab something to eat and go again it slips at higher RPMs. The cable is adjusted properly with the correct amount of "slack". Has anyone ever experienced this?

Thanks for any help

  • With exhaust you must put a fuel controller on. The smoothest setup is by using multiple sensors. Marthys exhaust setup is the best bang for your buck. I made my own version of marthys exhaust setup.

  • Mine is quite louder than marthys. I use a gytr r6 shorty carbon fiber muffler cut stock header and welded in a reducer and angle pipe.

  • There is a sound clip on here of my exhaust right after I installed it.

  • no. i beat a 400ex with a 440 big bore and fmf megamax and my warrior was stoc. we even switched so it wasnt the rider.both ran perfect and had nothing wrong

  • they are both good 4 wheelers i think the 400 is a little better in my opinion...i own a warrior and have ridden many of my friends 4 wheelers also

  • U adjusted the valves yet???

  • No. I'll do that this winter. I have to park her this weekend cuz I'll be in N.O. for the next few months. I might just save the money and use it for a down payment on another bike. I'm ready for more power and better suspension.

I compared the EBS Billy Sheehan pedal with my Pearce BC1 today and can only... — YAMAHA Attitude Ltd

I compared the EBS Billy Sheehan pedal with my Pearce BC1 today and can only say that the difference is like night and day. The Pearce simply outperforms the EBS pedal.

IMO, the EBS pedal is so un-flexable and mid-rangy and it is impossible to get some growl in the low end. The Tone don't go so low and it tops out very high when it is set to it's max setting. The loops are only post-meters, so if i have the Level knob at 09.00 o'clock that's the very signal that is sent to the loop, iow in this case a weak signal that most of the times it's too weak for a pedal/fx to work with without gaining up the signal somewhere in the chain and thus get more hiss.

I bought two MXR 10-band EQ to tame the signal. I have tried one on the input of the EBS pedal, in both loops, one on the output of the EBS pedal but that dirty low end growl was not there. With the Pearce, just dial the Midrange Freq down to lets say 100-70 Hz and feel the room when it starts to shake and growl. Now i can have subtle dist in the low end from CH2 and a tad of dist at let's say 1 KHz on CH1. Blend it and you have a winner.

Yes, i do indeed know that the comparison is unfair since i am comparing a pedal with a rack-mount-able preamp with tons of tone controls and gain knobs. But that's kind of the point i am trying to make, the EBS pedal can sound great, but it is in my humble opinion limited to four knobs with no control over the frequenceis that the Tone knob controls, nor the gain of the Tone.

The EBS pedal is great and Billy and Mats at EBS has done a great job with it. Hats off to you guys! But if you need different tones, one song with just a tad of dist in the high end, one song with more dist in the low end *and* the high end this pedal just don't work. This is a personal opinion/preference and as i wrote, i do know that the comparison is unfair.

If the EBS pedal would have a knob for the *ammount* of gain of the Tone, full control of Send and Return signals and if the Tone reached lower in the frequencies i would have been happy. :)

  • Marco Fazzini, the AMT BC-1 is a great and flexable pedal and is a great buy. The Cab Sim output from the pedal is just magical!

This is the pedal i am going to use with a EBS MultiComp or MXR Bass Compressor on the input and a MXR 10-band EQ in the FX Loop. :)

  • You have my attention: I'll try a BC-1 someday! Talking about the compressor, let me say I love the MultiComp!

  • Yes, the MultiComp is indeed great and is probably the one i will use most.

So my 2007 V-Star 1300 won't start all of a sudden. When I went to start it yesterday, it didn't crank...all I heard was a dull whine so I figured it was the battery gone dead. My fiance helped me push start it, and it started up once moving. We put it in the garage and left it hooked up to a battery charger all night. This morning, it cranked over in the garage but when I coasted it out and tried to start it, it was back to giving me the same dull flat buzz/whine and no crank. Can this still be the battery, or do you guys think it could be something worse?

  • I wouldn't say its exacly the same, but I hear it, the last thre notes going up. Anyways, I didn't know that Who's song!

  • Give me enough time and I'll find 50 songs that use that lick or similar.

  • yeah, it's pretty easy to find "copys" around after so many years and so many people. I myself have this little number where I stick togheter a whole bunch of songs from Argentina and Japan from all sorts of eras all over the same structure and chords (Placehlbel's Canon) some with even the same melody, but from origins totally unrelated.

That's how we can do all sorts of crazy mash-ups, I like finding these similarities beteen otherwise completely unrelated songs :P

  • true. just something my brain shat out. definitely wasn't a knock on anything you're involved in. you're clearly well established!

I just noticed a similarity is all, and I was curious if anyone else heard it too.

  • oh, I was talking to Billy. there's definitely original stuff out there, I was more talking about that octave into an ascending riff that drives both songs. as far as that progression, I don't really listen to much "tried and true" stuff that often because I've just heard it all before.

I rode a Yamaha 650 special across Canada and the U.S. in 1980-81. Not a problem and even after switching to H-D. I still missed the Yamaha. Got out of biking until a few years ago. Bought a 2009 V-1300 fresh out of the box. It still has only 720 actual miles. I'm wondering how they came up with the idea to use a flat bungee cord, for lack of a better term, to hold down the battery cover. You cannot see the hook, nor the square clasp that the hook needs to catch. Of course the limited space means you need to find Keebler elves to do the job or curse and swear at repeated failed attempts. Don't do much riding this way. I still owe about 5500 on it, and would sell it in a trice. Not a good design.

Of course everyone watches the news and sees whats happening over here on a daily basis. I rarely hear about crime over on your side of the globe. I like to push peace and keep that shit in motion but I'd be damned if I let some dumbass try to hurt my family or myself.

  • Is a hard one Jeff, how do you control it alll, seems to have got out of hand. The U.S. population is 13.7 times larger than that of Australia, but it has 134 times the number of total firearm-related deaths (31 672 vs. 236 in 2010) and 27 times the rate of firearm homicide (11 078 [3.6 per 100 000] vs. 30 [0.13 per 100 000] in 2010) (1). In the Uk where there are no guns the figure was 35 deaths due to gun related crimes.

Its all about them. Its with this attitude that seperates us. How it will ever get under control is beyond me. • Rizzo, go to FJOwners.com and open this link: http://www.fjowners.com/index. php?topic=3380.0 There is a PDF file on how to adapt a 17" GSXR wheel to your FJ. You may have to become a member before you can access the "files" section.

  • The 1TX that is pictured has a FZR 17"x5" rear wheel. The wheel came on the bike when I purchased it. I have not removed the wheel, so at this time I don't know what was done to make the wheel fit. I know the GSXR wheel mod is a very good install. I have a 92' GSXR750 rear wheel on my 3CV

  • Here is the info on my 17" YZF600R rear wheel swap. The parts required will be coming from a YZF600R 97-04 (not an R6):

    Rear wheel

    Bearings for that wheel

YZF brake disc and bolts to hold it on

    Sprocket carrier <--- gets machined

    Cush drive rubbers (x6) - 4FM-25364-00-00

Spacer between carrier and wheel - 90387-2004C-00 <--- gets machined

Seals for the wheel - 93106-40041-00

    Spacer, chain side - 90387-2004C-00

Hat spacer, brake side - 90387-2004D-00

    Caliper perch - 4JH-25819-00-00 <-- gets machined

Basically everything that the axle goes through on a YZF, excluding the chain tensioners and outside washers.

Your best bet is getting a rear wheel as assembled as you can get it from ebay or the like, including all the spacers and cush drive.

The caliper mount needs 8mm milled off for clearance on the swingarm side.

The sprocket carrier needs 3mm milled off where the sprocket touches it. You'll need a torch to get the studs out of it, as they have permanent threadlocker on them. Jon Cain's words were "jumpin spit hot", and he's right, be very liberal with the application of heat and they come out with minimal fuss.

The spacer needs 8mm milled/lathed off of it to make it narrower, not smaller diameter.

The brake torque arm that connects the top of the caliper mount to the swingarm can be either left alone (but it will be slightly under tension because you'll have it a bit sideways, it also may not clear some tires), it can be cut and welded with an offset as shown, or it can be bent a bit (will end up slightly at an angle and may need the holes opened up a little bit at the swingarm end).

The wheel is a 17x5.0 and matches in style the 88+ FJ wheels. A 160/60R17, 160/70R17, and 170/60R17 tire will mount up with it. With a 170 tire (the usual choice), some brands of tire will get very close to the torque arm as well as the chain, so be warned in advance. Also the overall height will change vs the stock tire, approximately akin to going up a tooth on the rear sprocket. If you want to work out appropriate gearing, this is a good place to start. Also here is a link with photos of the above mod. http://www.fjowners.com/index. php?topic=1567.0

Here's a tip for you guys, one of the annoying things I've run into while I'm out riding is the pant leg (especially my left pant leg) tends to ride up above my boot due to wind and shifting. It gets a little drafty and it's just annoying, they make some boot bands to clip on to your pant legs and go under the boot to keep them down, they sell for about 15-20 bucks. I bought some elastic ironing board cover straps that are the perfect length right out of the package and were only 3.99 for a set of 4 straps! Thought I'd share!

And no way was gonna stop on an unlit part of a dual carriage way to hunt for it ! So Thursday I have a drive the same route I ha taken the previous evening and found sunbathing on the side of the road ! Today ALL b**tard day I decided to fit a new collector box and polish no4 down pipe (as already done the rest) ad refit exhaust can ! Many cut fingers and thumbs and bits of shit and polish in my eyes a moaning misses the exhaust is on up to the cans as I neglected to get seals ! The moral of this story is SATURDAYS ARE FOR THE PUB!

2004 1100 VStar Was sitting for maybe 4 6 weeks in the garage unridden finally... — Yamaha V-Star riders

2004 1100 VStar. Was sitting for maybe 4-6 weeks in the garage unridden, finally found time to go out tonight, and it wont start. Battery was low so I added a charger and jumper, and cranked it for probably 5 minutes off and on (lots of gas smell, had to play with the choke a lot). FINALLY got it to start and it was running extremely rough, as if half the engine wasnt even working. Ran it for about 30-60 seconds and it started to die, then noticed smoke coming from just behind where the top exhaust pipe leaves the engine...it appears wet but cant tell what it is. Pic shows where the smoke was coming from. Ugh! Anyone have any suggestions??

  • If I can help in any way, I'm always happy to do it :)

  • pre-'74 XS had what we used to call baseball bat silencers & low pipes. IIRC, '74 was 1st year of the new frame design that came about with help of Triumph's Percy Tait when XS models got upswept exhausts ala Norton Commando

  • Now that's a pretty '72 XS2

Okay, here's my question since I'm new here. I have a 2007 C3 and removed the restrictor washer so I'm now getting about 45 mph. What's the next modification I should do to get more speed, sliders? If so, which sliders and how many grams will provide the best top speed? Thanks.

Just have to say what an unpleasant experience I had with Viking Bags products... — Yamaha V-Star riders

Just have to say what an unpleasant experience I had with Viking Bags products and customer support. I order bags for my V Star 1100 custom which arrived as promised on October 1st. I opened the box to find no mounting hardware and the strap which is to secure the two halves and adjust the yoke was frayed and looked to be cut. Immediately contacted customer support who asked for pictures. I sent the pictures within minutes. The next day later I email for an update since i haven't heard anything about missing and defective parts. Two days later i had a reply "I would be happy to send out a new throwover. I also show that in my shipping system you were needing hardware as well. I can box all that up and ship it today if you would like. Please let me know how to proceed". I thanked him and replied," If you could include another throw over section with strap for the VLX20P bags with the the mounting hardware, I would be grateful." So now move ahead to October 9th. Since I had not heard anything further I email to check when I would expect these items. heard nothing Today I decide to chat from their website. Since i v'e used enough of your time your I will sum up, The Hardware never shipped and was out of stock until today and i will be receiving a tracking number soon. When I asked about the defective part, which was to ship with the missing hardware last Friday, I was told that i would have to return the bags and when they received them they will ship me another set but that would take longer. Return Label requested. Lets see how long this takes to get.

So I m on the way home heading south on US1 and I changed lanes to pass this... — Yamaha V-Star riders

So, I'm on the way home heading south on US1 and I changed lanes to pass this guy doing a few mph under the speed limit. As I passed him he started screaming obscenities at me about how all us BIKERS beat up that poor guy in the SUV in NYC a couple weeks ago. At the next red light he told me he was going to get even using me. He proceeded to road rage me for a mile or two, actually tried to run me off the road a couple times. At the next red light a guy that was behind us got out with his phone in his hand and told the other guy that he had recorded everything and gave me his number so he could text me the video to use against the asshole. Mr. Road Rage decided to drive correctly after he saw me pulling into S Daytona PD. I'll share the video as soon as he sends it to me. I hope it has the guys plate clearly visible so I can take it to the PD and have him charged with road rage. Hell, I ride a cruiser not a crotch rocket of which what all those guys were on. Assholes these days. My rant for the day...
