  • $1800 is steep, though. This color combo with the yellow fork boots is my least favorite.

I have a FJ1200 3CV 1988 E reg for sale the bike needs a new rear tyre and the rear brake pads need changing, it could do with a chain and sprocket change and a bit of cosmetic work to get it back to it's former glory. It has no tax or mot but the engine still runs great. I am only selling cause I can't afford to get the tyre and pads sorted to get it through the mot. The bike will need to be collected if anyone is interested inbox me and I will give you any information you require. This is still a great bike and could also be a great investment for anyone who wants a new project.

  • Mine never got that much, one thing I noticed was young guys in cars would try to race me from traffic lights. Now when i pull to a set of lights with the MT the young guys just gaze at the engine and never try to race now,,,,

  • Dan it's probably cause they realize what's the point to race, your bike isn't ment for that, it'll lose... lol. Just kidding

  • With the racks they were right at 700 bucks.

  • I sat on the same two bikes last week and that FZ09 made me feel like I was on a 450 SX bike. Hard as a rock and too damn naked. Be a fun wheelie machine around town but that's about it. Alarms, GPS tracking units, are all great things to have if you have to park outside. I'd also consider installing a kill switch somewhere.

  • Yup the FZ09, or MT09 is a nice bike, but yes it is a hard bike, feels lighter than the Fz6R and more power. Just not a lot of bike in it although the price tells you why.

Did the AIS plug mod tonight. The left pipe would rust out every few years and I would replace it. Like a moron I spent probably 300 on that over the years. Then I heard about the plug mod. So, I am tearing it apart and find that someone years ago plugged the front cylinder at the rubber hose directly in front of the AIS. Guessing that's why it would rust out. No way for condensation to get out. Anyhow, instead of using .45 shells, I used .38 spl in the elbows. I was cooking ribs at the time and was just rifling around in a bucket of brass and decided to give it a shot. Fit very snug and I didn't have to yank out the elbows. Not the cleanest look, but it works! Maybe I'll pull out the elbows down the line, but it works for now!

Shifting down the gears as you approach a stop or shifting all the way down in gears once you're already stopped? How do you do it, and does the 2nd approach have negative effects?

  • What the dealer failed to mention is the engine speed in relation to the downshift...... You can and will lock her up if you shift down at to high of engine speed. I know I've done it twice. Both times it was about 7-8K.

  • I'm gonna keep doing what I've been doing cause I've had no issues so far.

  • Every one does things a little different, it's just about finding a way that is comfortable for you and suits the way you ride, all this rev matching stuff is mainly for track or corner carving when your keeping the revs high, other than that just releasing the clutch slowly will be fine for most people.

Do you guys wave at or back to people on trikes scooters can am etc Do you... — Yamaha FZ6R Owners

Do you guys wave at or back to people on trikes, scooters, can-am, etc? Do you feel like they are really "riding"

  • I am not sure what pretentious dick came up with the restrictions. It's about getting out on two wheels and enjoying life. I've seen riders go as far as running scooters off the road or giving them the finger instead of the wave. They are riding for the wrong reasons.

  • Doesn't matter what you ride, long as you ride. I don't own an FZ6R anymore I moved on to an R1, but the facts are still the same. Worst case they don't & to hell with them, I'll still give a nod.

Few things that is rather irritating though is the Harley/Curiser folks pulling up next to me and rev'ing it up. I beep my horn and give a thumbs up. Occasionally show them how small they really are when I hit mine after their jug/primary bolts loosen a few ft lbs.

Size matters on a few occasions, near tac out at a red light isn't one of them. What's people deal with sports bikes, I've no clue. Some people just want to pull out the rulers. Most think this at bike nights, but... '$25,000 of chrome & 25,000 miles doesn't make you a biker.'

  • Another note, if you give the wave to acknowledge another rider, let it simply be that. Never do something with the hopes of receiving anything in return. Do it because you wanted to do it. Also, on the note of some riders and especially scooter riders not signaling back. It could be something as simple as you catching them off guard because they don't normally get that kind of acknowledgment from other motorcycle riders.

  • Can the bunks be widened so that the boat sits lower? Can the winch be moved higher on the post? That's a definite no go as is. If you drill a new mounting hole for the lower bolt to swing it up higher will that be enough?

  • I would extend the winch support 2 ft or return the trailer. That's not going to work out well as is.

  • I was able to adjust the winch up There is a second adjustment hole that was hidden. Also picked up the center roller. sits perfect now. :)

Because I live on the country I can kick the bike over in the drive way and head straight to the forest so it will be getting a lot of use

  • Went for a ride today on a local mx track. The Previous owner said he replaced the wheel bearings last month. Most have been cheap Chinese bearings because the rear wheel bearings came apart and the chain came off....end of ride...

  • The further up in the clamps, the lower the front end sits, which makes the bike corner/turn quicker/easier/faster, but at the expense of fast/straight line stability over woops/jumps etc.... It just depends how you like it, and what type of track your riding on. Find a nice happy medium that's works for your riding style and track conditions.

Anyone have clipons like this? If so how do you like them and does it change handling of the bike at all?

  • Personal preference. I like them because they're set up just like my last ride. Personally - I think the ones in the picture look ridiculous as do any with serious risers on them. If you plan to do insanely long rides you won't find them as comfortable. It's hard to say/imagine they make a difference in handling. They turn the forks just like the stock ones (and any others) do. If you're more comfortable riding with clip-ons, you'll probably feel like it handles better. Just my 2c.

  • Oliver Davey what kind do you have? Pics?

  • I have the ones from Apex Manufacturing, LLC. I just browsed through what pics I have and my helmet is sitting on top of them in them all lol. I'll snap one for you tomorrow.

I know it says its waterproof but I dont really believe that for a second, maybe the speakers are. Still waiting on them to send me a new one, the other one the speakers didnt work, I really hope they dont try and tell me it was my fault. I think I might just have to drive to Jacksonville and throw a fit!!!!

  • Is there a storage box on the 950,guess I better get the manual out

  • I am not for sure, there should be one for tools. Mine had the stock tool kit in it. Most bikes they put them under the seat. If u have a windshield it could be easy to mount with them metal pieces I used from lowes.

  • Could try Vaseline around seal on plug

  • I use a dish scouring pad on the plug and the area where it seats at the buttom of the cleanout tubes, allow to dry and coat both with silicone spray. Seems to work well. If you dont scrub that area, corrosion can build up, making plugs hard to install and lock in place.

Realized I haven't shared a pic of my bike yet. Just got this one a couple weeks ago, third FJ, sixth bike in the last two years. Rode in the passenger seat of a semi 1000 miles to get to her, drove her back the long way (1500 miles), took my time, stopped by the Dragon, Cherahola skyway, blueridge parkway, Netchez trace, and through Ouachita national forest. Brought the engine bars with me and installed when I got there, knew I was going to be riding it hard!

2mm overbore with high compression Wiseco, APE racing valve springs, engine rebuild was 7k miles ago, every bearing and seal replaced with Yamaha parts on entire bike, new front tire, good back tire, chain and sprockets near new, V&H 4-into-1, cosmetics redone from scratch, lithium battery, stainless brake lines, fully rebuilt brake and clutch components, aftermarket barnett clutch setup, forks rebuilt...

Thing's a killer! About to install blue spots and radial front master cylinder. I almost feel bad, because they aren't as cosmetically pretty as the rest of the bike!
