How many of you actually take care of the plastic parts of your bike? It's gotta be treated monthly I say. Using silicone spray. Keeps it looking new.

  • Lol this is about treating the plastic on our bikes. Not the chain.. haha

  • Im with Comeaux. I turtle wax all the metal and use the turtle wax ice for the plastic,,,,, comes up nice,,,

  • Last weekend, I was looking at my plastic bits with a sad face bc they look like shit. I put the job on the to-do list and forgot. Thanks for the reminder and the product suggestions. I love this page! It makes me feel better knowing that others obsess over this moto life as much as I do!!

Does everyone wash there bikes with soap and water and spray it or clean it... — Yamaha FZ6R Owners

Does everyone wash there bikes with soap and water and spray it or clean it with a spray fairing/plastic cleaner?

%d comments
  • Good to know. I actually love waxing it myself (gives ya a chance to admire it up close lol) but the spray on would come in handy when I know it's gonna rain the next day and mess up my meticulous job anyway

  • It really does help protect from the elements like bugs, rain, dirt, etc...... Makes it easier to clean the next go around

  • Im always wary about cleaners not designed for the job at hand. Anything with ammonia or a de-greaser will strip off any protectant wax, polish and nano tech you have on your via polishing. We have all seen cars with the laquer or clear coat peeling off due to the hard sun and lack of protectant, especially in Australia where summers can be 40c or 110F. I clean mine regularly, if it gets dirty due to wet roads ect, I get my pressure washer out which has proper cleaning liquid in it for cars, not any type of degreaser, and I rinse the bike off all over, then soap it all over with the wash&wax , do it a coupel of times,, then rinse it all off. Once done I get my chamois leather and wipe all the water off it. Now and again I will polish all the metal work with Turtle Wax , and I will use Turtle Wax Ice for the plastics. Once she is all polished up it will last 6 months before the polishing needs done again.. Wash a bike with any degreaser, ammonia or any substance not make for it, you will end up finding all that polish and protectant gone.... Some of the none proper cleaning stuffs may make it shine, but so would desiel or even brake fluid.... I never skimp on cleaning products,,,, But then I did run a mechanical workshop and detailing centre for a good few years... I learnt my lessons in that time...

The world's top extreme enduro riders were once trials riders.... And majority of them at the current times are British nationals, headed by Graham Jarvis (see vid).

For some of us YZ250 riders here this type of riding skill is the ultimate Shangri La.

Hope he's going fine. Looks like were 12 hours apart Scott. We're GMT +8 in Manila.

  • Hi Scott, i saw the page of Rory and he's on the road to recovery.

By the way, it was not only Rory who finished in Top 10 at Erzberg Rodeo aboard the YZ250 - Jade Gutzeit of South Africa and Kyle Redmond of United States were the other two YZ250 riders that completed the Erzberg race with a Top 10 finish. Pretty much i already forgot what i wrote in Thumpertalk.com way back in 2012.

i go by the name of Joshua Inigo thereat LOL!

  • Also, in his maiden voyage at the Roof of Africa hard enduro, Rory finished runner-up in his YZ250 ;) ....This is how hardcore the Roof of Africa is.

Not bad for a bike (YZ250) where its natural habitat is motocross, not enduro racing.

Question. 85 FJ1100 all stock. What octane should I use — Yamaha FJ 1100 1200 and 1300 sport tourer - LATERAL FRAME CONCEPT

Question.... 85 FJ1100, all stock.... What octane should I use?

    %d comments
    • 10% here in the USA >:(

    • The stock FJ engine runs best on REGULAR gas (87). Anything higher and you are robbing the bike of horsepower. Octane is just a measure of how difficult gas is to combust. If you have higher compression pistons, lower octane gases are at risk of pre-combustion, causing pinging. Once you've felt it, you know it. If you haven't felt it, you aren't experiencing it.

It is ideal to have the LOWER OCTANE POSSIBLE, without experiencing pre-detonation. Too high of an octane means partially non-combusted fuel, which means less power.

Calling it "premium" or "super" is purely marketing selling more expensive gas.

    • Kyle... That is what I understood... A younger mechanic stated the opposite..... Now to clarify, , I am happy with a stock bike and HP.... Reliabilty and extended motor life are my objective.... That is why I got the FJ1100 because it is more bike than my 650

I acquired my neighbors 97 warrior which was his winter project. It was bored — Yamaha Warrior Raptor YFM350

I acquired my neighbors 97 warrior which was his winter project. It was bored .030 over but that's all that was done to it. Everything else is stock. The ATV idles great but anything more than 1/8 or 1/4 throttle then she stumbles. I know the stock main jet is a 145. I ordered a 147.5 main jet which I haven't received yet to try and correct my issues but the more research I do it seems I should be looking at a different jet needle for 1/4 to 3/4 throttle response. I know every bike is different and my elevation is about 500ft above sea level. What are your opinions on jet sizes to start out with?

    %d comments
    • works great you can also put a valve stem cap where the foot pushes on the rod. silicone it on it fell off on mine when i did it and the throttle stuck open

    • I have read in the forums that it could be the accelerator pump but from what I read that's the issue when people already have the correct jetting. I'm still curious if anyone has a warrior bored .030 with stock jetting which still runs great without any problems. If this is the case than I have a different issue but I think my main issue has to due with having the wrong jets installed. I know it seems odd to have the motor bored without having any other mods but that's the issue I'm facing right now.

    • the main jet only controls 3/4 to full throttle. you can lower the clip on the needle but if you can slowly roll into it and it revs but just stab the gas and it falls on its face its the accelerator pump take the side cover off the carb and you can see if the pump is stuck

Can anybody tell me what this noises is??

      %d comments
      • How does urs run?

      • It can have piston slap and not necessarily smoke. Piston slap is when the skirt of the piston and the bore get worn allowing the piston to rock. This can happen and not affect ring seal. It can also be piston pin noise. It is common for the pin and the pin bore to wear because they only get oil from what splashes up there. My Warrior did it. It was pretty noisy but there is nothing you can do about pin noise without changing the crank and rod.

      • Mine runs pretty good, just noisy and blows smoke when I really get on it, but I can def notice a loss of power

So if I knew the stock length, I could just order some 2 over. Thanks in advance. By the way for you guys wanting to do apes, but don't want to buy one of the expensive kits, there is a guy on ebay who make steel braided lines for a decent price.

So after going on a ride with my newly installed juice box I have decided it was a good buy for the money, the throttle is more responsive, very small power increase which I suspect will change once I install my exhaust since the juice box had a pretty boring map for the stock exhaust and stock air filter. It runs a bit richer than it used to so I can now smell my exhaust which I like the smell of. It is incredibly user friendly to install and switch maps and the map tuner on the computer is pretty sweet. Can't wait to finish my exhaust! Be safe out there everyone and have fun.

For me it was a no brainer to take this course. It was good to have other eyes critic my technique and offer corrections as needed. There was also the cost difference. To go to take just the skills test was up to $50 just to ride a 10 minute 4 skill test. To that the MSF course here was only $25!

It may be different other states but here it is funded by the fees collected by the SOS (DMV) for plated etc.

            • Steve Higgins . I had to take the original wheels off because they didn't comply to our stupid road rules. They are a light truck heavy duty mag wheel that are designed for heavy boat trailers , and salt water resistant coating on them :)

            • Come and visit some time. It is beautiful!!!

            • I would love to visit. It looks beautiful. We have only fresh water lakes here. We are about 6 hours from New York City.

            • You definitely get more lean before you scrape a peg with the L&M setup. I was about to trade my Bolt for a wide glide but after the forward control mod, i love it. Only down side is that your kickstand moves forward also, so its a little harder to put up and down and the bike feels slightly less stable when on the stand. But overall a great upgrade.

            • Cranky willy - have you got the vanse and hines twin slash pipes on with the l&m forward controls?

            • I have heard they fit together but no one can confirm??? Have you heard if they work?

Hello I Aleksandr Madoyan from Armenia

Since from my 8 years I do karting , then since from my 11 years old I started doing motorcycling, but not in professional level : motocross, motorally. In Armenia there

is no school for training technical sports . Despite of this, in Armenia sometimes do competitions in motocross. Although the technique is old ( 70-80 years ) and mostly homemade . In neighboring countries organized tours motorally, motocross. I am unable to participate in them because of lack of proper machinery , equipment and finances. In Armenia is impossible to buy Motorcycles and related equipment in accordance with international standards of motorsport . If I have finances, I’ll can have a part in that competitions in a neighboring country have the opportunity to acquire the proper equipment and techno . I work a long hours during day and night, doing all kinds of work ( repairing old motorcycles ) and get less per month $ 250. But in Armenia all is very expensive , I can’t save money for my hobby. I hope to find support among motorsport enthusiasts , who have opportunities. Urge and request sponsorship of organizations and individuals to participate in the upcoming professional competitions ( rally in Abu Dhabi , the Dakar Rally ...).I hope for your help and will support , and promise to participate in the event that you and your organization will know in many countries. Bikers , motorcycle racer , motor-fans , wealthy and influential people from around the world , you are my last hope .

                      • Nothing really other than year. The red and black was the flag ship 1986 along with the blue plastics and yellow fork boots. Yellow, blue and black plastics offered in 1985. Only blue and black plastics in 1986. They made some supposed power improvements but nothing notable. Confusing enough? So basically nothing other than color scheme.

                      • Not sure if you are talking to me but I have one of every 84-86 225. Yellow, Black, Blue, Special and Red and Black. Only one I do not have is a 1986 with yellow fork boots.

                      • im jealous.
