My doctor told me that having emotional feelings for an inantimate object, concerned him. I told him, "INANIMATE MY A$$"

Get on back while she's pulling triple digits and wanting more. WOW!

That man has issues.

You decide;

She's 36 years old.

Her old school style can still spank the new school boys.

She still turns every head in the crowd.

She will ride as long as you can feed her and hang on.

She drinks a little, but the more she drinks, the hotter and faster she gets.

Only time she smokes is when I make her.

I can lay her in most any position and she can handle it.

She performs better when I give her a hard time.

She loves a good sponge bath outdoors.

That's just a few of the reasons that I love her!

NOW GET YOUR MIND OUTTA THE GUTTER AND BACK ON THE ROAD!!!

Today was my first ride on my FJ and everything works great except the odometer bounces and these mirrors suck . I was very please with the bikes mid range power ! The bike never lags in 5th even on inclines under 40 mph. Although not as nimble in the twistys as my cafe (due to the weight and wheel base ) it performed good almost dragged a knee but didn't want to push it on the first ride . These bikes shift great nice and smooth neutral seems easier to find the more I ride. Feels as though I can easily do a couple of hundred miles at at time maybe I'll invest in a better seat. I am pleased I built it . The bike sure would look better with a chin scoop and bar end mirrors. With a little more time I will get er done.

Has anyone had their alternator modified for a higher output? Has it caused any electrical problems or other issues?

My wife can draw almost 200 watts with her heated gear and sometimes I plug in too, we are old. We dated back in the 80s on my FJ600 and 1100 and i still like having her on the back of my 93 1200 ABS. I think our blood type is type FJ.

After been trawling the internet and used gooogle up and down, getting the feelings of a greenhorn as more i read.. I would like to hear if someone could give me a advice or 2 in buying a new rear tire for my fj 1100, I have a Avon AM26 RoadRider 150/80 R16 71V but the middle of tire is worn out after only a few miles. maybe got 2000 mils on it, yes i know, could be caused of to high air pressure in it.. I dont ride hard,, I also feel its slippery and dont trust it on wet asphalt, Had have 2-3 time where grip been lost, last time in a curve at 50 mph (80 kmh) Only luck prevented the big crash.. So what will be good to use? Radial or Bisa (guess that is what we call diagonal here in norway) ? Brand name and so on? What will you guys recommend for me to use?? can also use 160/70 16..

Just to compare... does anyone else have some shaking and bouncing in the bars under moderate-hard cornering? The problem mostly occurs under neutral throttle, and more gas seems to lessen it. It's a problem I've had since I rebuilt my front forks. Even cruising down the road, they seem abnormally bouncy, and it's definitely hindered my confidence in the handling of the bike.

That being said, I'm used to the forks being put together improperly with no damping, so they kinda used to just... squish. Just wondering if this is normal steering feedback for an '87.

Hi all ,Thinking of Breaking the fj up (1987 1tx) , Cant afford to get the carbs sorted , you know how it is right , First there was the clutch , then the wiring e t c . each time i do something something else takes its place , There is also a small crack in the engine (Filled with jb heat weld ;ive never had to top up the oil), So i wont get my money back on it , Hence the breaking option , or if someone wants to offer and collect (Pembrokeshire) the whole thing as a project . Its been a really great ride though and i ll definitely miss it . cheers all.

What did I do today to my FJ? It's just the beginning of a pretty good list of maintenance and upgrades before the riding season really gets rolling. Today I installed the RPM shift detent kit, the wide clutch plate in the bottom of the basket and a new clutch cover gasket. This coming week will involve suspension upgrades at both ends.

I am looking for a satisfactory headlight globe wether it be LED or halogen ( not HID) I have an LED globe in at present ( THE ONE IN THE BLACK BOX ). It's a 4 sided globe. 2 low 4 high. On high beam I reckon candles are better. Low beam is ok, it's a bit better than halogen but doesn't have the distance. Very poor. . I've tried the globe in the white box. Very similar.

What's people's choices / views on what's better or is there anything better. Fred Greenlee I believe is looking in to another version of LED. I'm waiting to hear the review / findings. There appears to be a lot of LED globes on Ebay which claim 160 watt or 6000 lumen /kelvin. They appear to be no different than mine in looks. Has anyone bought any? If so. What's the thoughts or is it a marketing thing.

Well. It only takes one thing to get annoyed at. In this case the sat Nav wire. Broken wire. Was doing my head in yesterday on the ride. You know how it is. "It's the little things that's annoying". . So I decided to put a newer unit on which is sitting around. Also putting in a wire up front for the iPhone as a secondary option. Got a few ideas. Got to source another holder. Seeing it like this is giving me ideas. Thanks Fred Greenlee it's contagious. I'm trying hard to resist the temptation. Forgot to mention. I filled up before and after the ride. 5.4 litres per 100km. I'm quite happy with that. Considering it was up the mountains most of the ride. (Cruising)

These are the details of my fzr1000 wheel swap. It's well documented on the web.

Machined the flange of the sprocket carrier flush with the bearing.

Reduced the thickness of the rear disc bracket as shown, from 32mm to 20mm.

Had 2 new wheel spacers made up, 5mm on the sprocket side and 12mm on the disc side.

I'll end up using bolts instead of the studs on the sprocket carrier now because of limited clearance to the swing arm.

Apparently you have to put a clearance dent in the torque arm as well, haven't got that far yet.

Chainline isn't perfect apparently but it's pretty close and within safe limits! ☺

                      G'day FJ'ers,

Just thought I'd ask a silly question.

Doe's anyone have difficulty removing the fairing ? Mine always fights me every inch of the way off and on. I always must take care not to crack it anywhere as it flexes. Getting it back on is more difficult than taking it off. The rubber grommet on the top right mount is also troublesome. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 goes to get it back on so that it sits right with no stress.

I sold my 28yr old XT 250 TT today. Now I've had the bike 10 years but haven't used it for over 2 years and it's just deteriorating just sitting. I don't take it to work as it's 40km each way and freeway travel on it isn't safe as it doesn't have the power. So I advertised it on Facebook buy and sell. I bought the bike in country Victoria. I had about 20 people offer on it. Anyway it sold sight unseen to a bloke in the country. During the conversation with him last week he tells me the town. I look up his address. I managed to find the address of the guy who I bought it from with out word of a lie he lives 2 minutes from the guy I bought it from 10 years ago. How weird is that. Of all places it could go to.

I’ve been trying to find a way not to have to do this, but it looks like I must get rid of my FJ1200. Just over a year ago I moved to Spain with my heavily modified FJ, not knowing at the time that to register a vehicle here it must be in totally standard condition. Literally as it came from the factory. As you can see, thats not the case with my FJ.

So I’m looking for someone who would take it on. The engine runs perfectly.

New Avon tyres fitted just before I moved over, hardly ridden it here

Super dodgy paint job done by yours truly, kind of suits the rat look but if you want a showroom finish this isn’t the bike. To be honest I never planned to sell it so was doing all this just for my own benefit.

There is still some fiddly stuff left to do (isn't there always), the Factory Pro kit needs properly setting up and the carbs leak a bit.

The headlight and indicators need connecting. The bike has been sitting for 10 months now and as much as I don’t want to see it go, its worse knowing its just sitting there not doing anything.

I have the V5 in my name and in a UK address still, so registering it wouldn’t be a problem.

I can arrange for it to be sent to the UK easily enough, I’m not looking to make money from this I just want it back on the road so someone can enjoy it.

Based in the south of Spain, near Gibraltar.

FOR SALE This is the original Performance Machine Show and Display bike that the company used to show off their amazing Superlight Spun Aluminum rims in 17" updated size. The Bike also includes Performance Machine one of kind Calipers which are 6 piston quick release units. Drilled Huge Rotors front and back. PM Masters along with Steel braided lines throughout. Also has a custom made matching Corbin saddle in leather, a 4 into 1 Supertrap exhaust system. RPM LED Tailight that eliminates the turn signals. RPM Carburator Pods, almost brand new Michelins and newish Chain and a Works Performance Rear shock that is adjustable. This Bike is "One of a Kind" and is a real looker. I purchase this bike from a Gentleman named Pat Dunn in the city of Ventura. He retired from Performance Machine and the Owner of the company gifted the old girl to him. He held onto the bike until 4 years ago when I bought it. He cried and I promised I would take good care of her. The bike has been sitting for a few years and I've tried to get her running properly. I'm not a very good mechanic and I have lost my patience trying to tune her up all the time. The other day I started her up and she was burning some oil from the exhaust. She has 34K miles on her. I would like to sell her for $ 3,000 dollars. This is a perfect restoration project if someone wants to rebuild the engine and tune her up properly. The Unique parts that this bike has total up to more then 10K! Please contact Frank at djfrankv@aol.com or text me at (562) 704-0446 Bike is located in Long Beach, California

Met Alan Humes at the appointed hour and location

Waited a tad for Lee but he had more pressing business

Denver was in the 60's and the foothills dropped into the 30's

At a photo op Alan noticed mists and drops from the clutch master. So we cut the canyons short and headed for a good Mexican lunch

Mooched some towels and tin foil and made a guard then headed to Alan's to replace the cylinder. Alan had a spare but it would be busy town ride home without mirrors since the threads were eliminated and the right was broken with a case of the floppies

                                Parts are in the way

Hope to post more before a knee replacement on Dec 5th

Today the 3cw needed an upgrade the rear had to be changed to 17 inch.

I used the fzs wheel for it needs very little work to fit if you have all the parts. I have the parts but not all from the fzs so had to work my way around the fzs stock parts .

Basicly you only need to make the shim on sprocket side a few mm thinner and because the fzs has the brake under the swingarm l welded an aluminimum bracket on the swingarm.

When I press the start button I get a click from the starter solenoid, but nothing else. Battery is charged. I have swapped out the solenoid and tried shorting the terminals. No joy.

Bike was starting fine on Thursday. Only issue I noticed was my fuel and Volts gauges (combined after market set) flicking on and off.

Ive changed the switch and tried about 5 different relays, checked the wiring and still the same effect, motor wont swing and still acts as if the switch is in the off position , with fuel and oil light on.

One bike is 98% complete but in rough shape, the second bike was running but the transmission let go so I have taken it apart and the third is the project. It has a strong engine/transmission. I stripped it down, painted the frame and have it mostly back together but still needs a bunch of assembly. I don't want to part it all out, I'll either sell it all or pay to have someone finish one. There are a lot of spare parts as well. I have them located in Canada, BC on Vancouver Island and I'm bringing them back to Calgary in Alberta.

$3000, willing to entertain reasonable offers.

On this episode of why I have trust issues:

For the first time, took the FJ (or any bike I own, for that matter) to a mechanic for work a while back. Rear tire, chain, sprockets, and to redo the fork seals and fluid change. Seems pretty simple, yeah? Well, the first three went great.

The forks? Well... let's just say I can easily bottom them just by bouncing the bike sitting still. They weren't that way initially when I got the bike back, and progressively have gotten worse to the point that they're worse than when I first took the bike in for work.

According to the mechanic, he hasn't done anything wrong, and if they were leaking, everything would be covered in fork fluid, so the bike is in stock condition to stock specs... Sure thing, yeah... His answer: Well, you just need spacers to up your spring rate! Ugh. No, the springs are fine, it just has ZERO damping because of something that YOU screwed up. Cranked the anti-dive all the way up with absolutely no change in behavior.

                                            Rant over.

Normally I just fit a new inner and keep the old outer cable but this time it was damaged so.... Twenty minutes later I'm still trying to screw in the top and getting so frustrated I'm seriously thinking of removing the fairing to make it easier, then....half a turn goes on, it's started and finished. Today I'm going to try the second worst job. Fitting the parking light with a new bulb. Another very fiddly job for someone with large hands.

Good morning my fellow riders. Admin hope this is allowed.

I have found this little gem in my cupboard whilst having a clear out.

It is a very good condition clock cover. As you can see from the pics there are no cracks and all screw holes are complete. There is very light scratches present and marks just at the bottom of the face part. All in all this is in remarkable condition. They are from a 3xw so please check to see if they will fit your model.

I am in the uk but will post world wide. I am open to sensible offers plus postage and paypal fees.

Please place offers on here or pm them to me.

Just started rebuilding . First idea to install the 4/1 exhaust but the collector was in a bad shape and the rest needed some work to. I still have the xjr cans and the arrows to. And yes this collector needed work to . So had to weld it first now installed the arrows still got align them. But wanted to start first. No battery . Took it from my other fj but l heard nog fuel pump running so took it out and connected the 2 hoses to each other. First a test run. No Luck sofar Think l have to drain the fuel for it looks a bit rusty Brown and noticed the carbs needs rebuilding to lots of leakage.

Frame's been repaired. Recently acquired 17" x 5.5" rear wheel off an fzr1000 exup and a front end off 87/88 genesis with a 17 x 3.5" wheel. Should give me more tire choices and better handling from what I've read. Need to source some of those sexy blue spot calipers now!

Had my seat covered in leather and took a trip to Cape Town... well after 1200km my butt was bruised and I could not sit for more than 40km at a stretch due to pain. Now this is not what an FJ is all about.

Pulled into a small town, and i mean small and stripped the seat to see whats going on and removed the leather cover and tried the uncovered seat , well Bobs your aunty the seat was confy as it should be on an FJ. The leather was stretched so tight it had no give in it which caused it to kill my arse.

Here is Denise and me doing some roadside upholstery after we managed to find a staple gun and some vinyl in a town that doesnt even have a hardware store or a place that sells material, this town is the back yard of the back yard they have nothing.

Shows where there is a pain in the butt any plan can be made and 2ndly it pays to be a versatile biker

It is now being parked in it's designated winter access spot in my garage amidst the detritus of a few other current projects, wearing the dust from our last outing and taking a brief but well-deserved rest.

I've never heard the exhaust on my FJ aside from quick revs and while on the bike (which just sounds like a slightly louder version of what you hear coming from the engine itself) before. This is a slightly modified stock exhaust system, just done for shits 'n giggles more than anything else. Gotta admit, it turned out better than expected for 10 minutes of butchery...

Just wrote up a post on my profile regarding electronic nannies and how they severely limit the driving experience, as well as sound reduction, etc. (Porsche just released the 911-R, which I think is an awesome step in the right direction for the automotive world). Personally, I think it applies to motorcycles as well. One thing I like so much about the FJ is that it is a very pure experience. You twist the throttle and get everything the engine has, every time. No wheelie control, no traction control, no "riding modes". You, the roar of the engine, and the road. Perfect.

In my opinion, if you need constant intervention of aids to make the bike rideable on the street, then you've gone too far to the point that you rob the rider of the experience that is supposed to come with a motorcycle. The new H2 is neat, but let's face it: You'll probably never get all of what that bike has to offer. You'll always get a filtered version of reality. Sure, aids can help prevent crashes, but they also rob you of learning actual skills that can perform the same function while still allowing you to fully experience the machine. Honestly, one of the only interventions that I'd like to have is ABS, and even then limited ABS. Rear wheel slide is pretty easy to control and can be a not-insignificant part of the handling characteristics of the bike, but a front wheel lock can be unexpected and catastrophic.

                                                                  %d comments

It started fine idled well so went for a test drive and it was worse than crap. Stripped the carbs and found a jet had come out .

So far I think this height and setup works best. I can hear the headset at 120kmh no problems as well. I tried the visor a bit higher but with a strong headwind It kept blowing back. I can also ride with the helmet visor up without much buffeting if any. It's also the first time I've tried out the handlebars on a long ride after fitting them. I have a crook shoulder, however on the ride not one problem. No pain no after effects either. I'm impressed.
