I'm going to change my valve seals without removing the cylinder head. I was going to stuff the bore with some small rope and use one of those tools to remove the springs and collets. A Sealey VS1542 valve collet remover.

Anyone ever try this method? Is there enough room to do it?

The bike is a 4TX with 10,000, uses quite a bit of oil in my opinion.

It could be glazed cylinder bores, but I think hardened valve stem seals is a good one to eliminate first. ... and I can check the valve clearances while I'm in there.

I don't think it's leaking from any engine seals.

recently aquired a very clean tdm 8504tx with only 11k on clock previous owner replaced big ends mains timing chain and tensioner to get rid of a "mechanical tinkle" at 2200 revs to no avail I added an oil addative "active8" which appeared to remove noise but after a local run the noise returned is it likely to be valve clearances any one any experience?

Hi all, I know I've asked a lot of questions and I am very grateful for all the help so far. I am still learning a great deal about the tdm and still have questions, I do hope you can still help.

In this pic you will see a hose that I've pulled out slightly, the end just goes to nowhere so I presume it's drainage for something but does anyone know for what? And where does the other end connect to?

As always, grateful for advice. I do spend a lot of time trying to find the answers without asking but I can't seem to find much.

what a day, nice and quick ride to Devils bridge Kirby lonsdale, met a guy with a TDM9'r. Then a detour to Rivvington Barn, trip meter says 180 miles, i normally get 200 - 210 miles per tank.

on the way home the bike cuts out so straight for the fuel tap. This is when you realise you are already on reserve :/ 180 miles? was going about 80 - 100mph and gunning it past long traffic queues.

So what lessons for me today?

          1) 180miles per tank tops when I'm in "that" mood

          2) Fuel tap is the small bit pointing to the reserve, not the large

          3) ride with mates as sometimes as it saves you waiting 4 hours for the wife to find you

just want to say thanks for the help/suggestions ...but another question.. due to gympie legs (i have to help lift my right leg over the seat ) finding the bike is a bit tall.. what do people do to lower the bike ,the front seems easy ,raise the legs through the yoke but what about the lowering the rear? and adjusting the sidestand ,will the metal take cutting and rewelding ,same metal as the brake pedal which also will have to cut and extend to accomadate a doddgy foot... at the moment when on the bike cant get the balls of my feet to the ground ,which i need to for stability when stationary (as i said weak/doddgy legs )

Also wieder Zündkerze verruhst.

bought these BRAND NEW! carbs for my 4tx on and they are wrong. they fit the later 850 with tps (wire input) on sideof carb. ie they are bdsrt38 (i have been reliably informed)not the type without electrical plug which i need... I paid a lot of money for these so am offering them cheap at £120ono (make me an offer) plus postage to recover some of my losses. i can either deal by paypal or make an ebay listing . whichever you choose..... like i say they were sold to me as new look like they have been on a shelf awhile but have absolutely no marks on the screw heads etc and have never had petrol through them.. i hope they restore somebodies tdm back to good health :)

A car Driver who sideswiped a young motorcyclist & killed him was found to have 3 different drugs in her system.

She pleaded guilty at the Court case 18months later but, in the meantime she became pregnant 3 months after the incident & had a baby which resulted in a 20 month suspended sentence.

The Family & the Police couodn't believe the sentance given under the circumstances.

Someone asked the family of Aiden if they would mind if a protest ride was organised.

The family gave consent which has also led to another protest ride going ahead in Bolton.

A family there also lost their Son in similar circumstances only 3 or so months before.

So far there are 123 going & 245 interested in tge Barnstaple ride which has also been backed by the local Police who are also going to provide escort from what I gather.

CYCLISTS & PEDESTRIANS ALSO WANTED TO TAKE PART AS DRUG DRIVERS CAN EFFECT ALL ROAD USERS.

Both protests will take place same time, same day - SAT 11th MARCH AT 1100.

If you're going to be in or around either Town on the 11th or feel strongly enough about it you're more than welcome to join in.

Going to be selling my 1999 4tx on as I've bought a big victory 1731cc bagger for my European rides now. I bought it for touring as all my other bikes are hardtail chops. Been to south France, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Belgium, Holland etc on it, never had any major problems. Never had to be recovered, I've done thousands of miles on it, not in perfect cosmetic condition.. Was slid by previous owner, about 5 years ago, so I bought some. new panels from fowlers yamaha, it has some cracks in the side panels and in the main fairing, couple of small dents in the tank. Michelin pilot 2 tyres, I cut the pipes in half to get rid of the damaged bit, and welded the ends back on, so pretty meaty exhaust note, I service it with plugs oil and filters twice a year. The givi top box is top quality and holds 2 helmets and is quick release, I adapted the rack myself to fit it. I fitted a reconditioned rad and new fan in July. Uprated bulbs, 2 keys, twin USB charger in dash panel,..wavey disks, new pads, Offering on here before I put it on the dreaded ebay

                        Salve a tutti;

                        Volevo porvi due domande

                        - ho un problema con la spia della riserva cioè il galleggiante va benissimo perché la lancetta si muove senza problemi però quando il livello è basso la spia della riserva non si accende eppure la lampadina va, perché al momento dell'avviamento la luce si accende.... possibili cause ?

                        - monto sulla mia TDM il lunotto da 46mm il più lungo in vendita di tipo originale ma l'aria durante i viaggi mi arriva tutta in faccia e non è molto comodo cosa posso adottare per ridurre il problema ??

Grazie in anticipo per la pazienza

Sadly, my TDM is an uneconomical to repair - binding front brake, poor fork seals, grove in the head bearing, chain and sprokets worn, euro headlight lens, scratched fairing, and it doesn't start.

Good points - tyres have less than 1k on them (road pilot), and it has the Givi wingrack 2 with monokey top and side boxes.

It's in Hampshire, UK at the mo. If anyone is interested in making an offer for the bike and/or the rack/panniers, drop me a message. I'd rather it went to an enthusiast who might make something of it.

Anyone in the UK that relies on a bike to get to work there's a scheme or organisation that can help if you have problems with your bike. They will rent you a bike inc. Insurance starting around £25 per week I believe. I met a person that runs it at a local bike night. Apparently it's non profit & any profits made go to support local people. i.e. Devon Wheels to work supports the local girl who's number 4 for trailing or Motocross. Worth looking at if one in your area. they do a tyre fitting service as well http://www.wheels2workassociation.org/ If there isn;t one in your country already this may be a Viable Business oppotunity to start one yourself!

Here's another update of my USD fork project. After we delt with the steering pin problem, we now have a few other hickups. But as allways nothing is impossible. The FZR 1000 frontwheel that i had, has the same measurements for the bearings as the TDM. But the YZF axle is bigger and needs therefor a bigger bearing. So the wheel has to be machined to fitt the bigger bearing. Luckily there is enough meat on the wheel. The next problem is that the blue spot brake calipers dont fit the YZF fork. I ordered some additional parts to fit the LSL BigBar handle to the forkclamp. Thats all for now.

I have a tdm 850 4tx which has sat for a couple of years, trying to get it back on the road but having a carb problem. As didn't drain it down when last rode it the carb was full of crud, cleaned it out and jets I can see are clear if not perfect.

I don't seem to be getting fuel through the carb, it's filling but bike won't start.

I have a self xtz750 carbs that fit and bike starts with those but not with tdm ones. Unfortunately the xtz ones aren't linked to coolant and used to get carb freeze so dont want to use those.

I'm using a remote fuel tank so not going through fuel pump and straight on the carb fuel inlet pipe but as xtz and tdm carbs appear mainly same don't think that's the problem.

                                Any ideas?

                                TIA

Done some work again this evening. The wheelaxle came in (used €10, a new one costs €98.) The speedometer adapter costs 125 euries new, but the TDM one has a bushing in it, so once that was out it fitted like a glove (TDM axle is 17 mm and YZF one is 22 mm) i got the wheelbearings out and my nephew cut the steeringstems of both and machined them and welded them together again. So the YZF bottom joined the TDM top. Fitted the steeringlock to the topyoke (holes needed drilling) lower yoke touched the lamphousing, so i dremmeled it a bit and now i can turn the forks without touching. Enjoy the pics. Now need to order a few bits.

I'm busy making an route from the Faakersee Austria to the lakes Bled and Bohinj for next summer.

It seems that there is a nice road 907 from Zgornja Radovna to Krnica but on the Garmin Maps it seems to be unpaved.

Looking at it on google stereetview it looks like there were roadworks (pavement?) in 2013.

The Tomtom maps and Google maps look like they're paved.

Anyone over here who has local knowledge about this road who can advise me about the condition of this road?

                                    Is it paved or unpaved?

                                    Grtz From Holland,

The delivery day for my osram night breaker headlight bulbs (twin pack) was yesterday or today.

Ordered them from good old eBay & as you can imagine I'm not a very happy bunny just now.

Needed them the latest by today because I've got 1 working headlight instead of 2 because the right hand side one has blown & I've not got any replacement headlight bulbs until these arrive from eBay.

Guess who I'll be messaging 1st thing tomorrow morning???

Good afternoon fellow tdm owners — Yamaha TDM 850 Forum

                                              Good afternoon fellow tdm owners.

This is the steps i was going to do when i respray in the same colour metallic black my panels on my 1991 in the spring next year.

Step 1. Use wet & dry paper for removing the old paintwork as much as possible.

Step 2 wipe all panels thoroughly clean.

Step 3 apply 2 coats of spray primer.

Step 3 apply 2 to 3 coats of metallic black spray paint.

Step 4 apply 3 coats of clear lacquer.

Step 5 polish all resprayed panels to a high quality shine.

Step 6 ride the nuts off my bike Lol.

As I've never attempted any sort of respraying in the past can anyone give me any useful advice when i carry out this work please as I'm open to all ideas & comments please guy's.

I'm doing this in the spring next year.

Many thanks & safe riding to you all

Sorry first 2 pics aren't of a TDM! Did 100mile yesterday & ended up outrunning the rain heading for Sunset. Had proble with Speedo needle as it flips up & down over 70mph. Yesterday the needle dropped off!!! Had slight oil leak on one fork from a pair of forks I bought off of ebay as the Stantions were cleaner than mine. Noticed a slight oil leak monday & decided to redo the seals today as well as swap the bottoms as the pair I bought had the mudguard brackets ground off for a project before. the chap I bought the off assured me i was getting a bargain as they had uprated springs. On taking apart I found the closer part of the coils was up the top. Also someone had put Plastic tubing as spacers!!!! WTF!!!! Luckily there's a small metalwork factory round the corner & the chap is very accomodating - he happened to have aluminium tubing with just over 3mm wall thickness & about 1mm less diameter than the washer. for the price of a bag of doghnuts he cut me off two lengths the same to replace as spacers. The springs have been turned round with tighter coil at bottom & Oil replaced using 15w instead of the 10w that the manual specs. A short ride this eve & the front suspension felt better - not sure if positive is the right word but seemed more sure in the cornering. Proof though that whenever buying anything second hand like suspension it needs taking apart & checking to whether it's been done properly!!

Hi Guys I ve done some high altitude countries in South America on a TDM before — Yamaha TDM 850 Forum

Hi Guys, I've "done" some high altitude countries in South America on a TDM before. Have any of you every encountered problems above 3000meters?

I'm planning a trip from Bogota down to Patagonia via Bolivia, starting next month. I have a prepared BMW 1200GS on standby, but I'd prefer the lower tech TDM. My TDM is pretty much sorted with suspension and I'd probably stick a set of Heidenaus, front with a reversed rear. The old 18" prob.

I'm just concerned about loss of power 2 up above 3000M. 4500M is probably the highest I'll be going. Anyone use a bike up that high? Thoughts?

Mark Porter's Wheelie Post reminds me of One thing! NOTE TO ALL WITH AGEING TDM - This may apply more to those that are kept outside. I bought my 1991 3VD with the intention to strip it down to frame & treat & respray everything - which I did. After taking the swing arm off - which is steel - I saw corrosion near the joints where the bearing pin goes through swing arm & the frame.. The side stand side of the swing arm had rotted out considerably on the brace part that bridges between the tube of swing arm & box section. Probably because it sat on that side with water in the swing arm. I had started to weld in a right angled plate but when I took a cross pein hammer & tapped the seam weld underneath on the other side, it was thin & the hammer would go through if hit hard enough. Luckily the chap that I bought it off had 2 TDM's - one for spares & let me have the other swing arm which I fitted. TDM's are heavy & god knows how much torque goes through the swing arm when you give it some right hand. But Wonder who Checks underneath the swing arm. When I had the bike MOT'd it was thoroughly checked suspension steering etc. But he didn;t get on the ground & look underneath the swing arm.

Thought I'd post series of pics for anyone interested - Yep the Nautilus Airhorn can be mounted on the left side behind fairing panel. To semi hide it I bought a sheet of A3 size Mesh from themeshcompany for just under £11 delivered - cheaper than ebay & I always look for another option as I hate Ebay making so much! Mesh shaped & attached to inside of fairing using plastic welding rods (Amazon I think at under £5) & soldering iron. Todays job was making a 12v charging socket which at present is permanent live. I will add a switch now I've sourced a waterproof one. Also intend to put a relay behind panel so if neccessary I can use a portable 12v compressor. I doubt the switch will take the load on its own! Still got a little tweaking I want to do!

                                                              Morning fellow bikers.

Well i fitted my brand new ignition coil. Spark plug caps & ht leads & boom the little fucker started INSTANTLY.

I thought fantastic problems have now been solved so i put the air filter & fuel tank back on & connected the fuel lines & turned on the fuel supply & it was turning over AGAIN constantly but not starting.

Removed the fuel tank & air filter AGAIN but on testing the spark plugs by resting the plug on the engine there was no spark.

I've checked & properly connected the ht leads to the spark plug caps & to the spark plugs & I've checked the ht leads has been connected to the ignition coil properly & i don't know what else to do.

It's pissing me off BIG-TIME now.

I've put the battery on charge till tomorrow morning & I'm going to have another go at it.

If it still won't start & isn't running PROPERLY by Monday morning it's definitely going on Gumtree.

I've had enough of it now

High mileage but mostly motorway miles (previous owner used it as a commuter bike and I've put some miles on it touring Scotland, Belgium and a good 2 weeks round Denmark, Norway and Sweden (approx 2500 miles). Never let me down or missed a beat but the chain and sprockets definitely needed doing on my return!

I'm going to have to look for something smaller/lighter, such as a Dr650, FMX650, possibly a Muz supermoto, Drz400, or at a push a Gsxr400, Tl1000r, cbr6 etc, or sell for £1100 but would rather px I think...? Cash either way.

It has 42k miles, it has a (moderately loud) Black Widow exhaust can, a talking remote alarm, Standard bars and indicators, metallic grey paintwork (could do with a polish), front tyre is getting low but I'll replace that this week if I get time, then it should be ready for mot.

I'm near Wigan, I'm on 07796855921 if you'd like to text, and I think that's all..?

I have my TDM for about 4 years now and being looking for a different bike for more than half a year now. The TDM is still good dough but you know, sometimes you want something else. ( yes i am spoiled). I had about 15 bikes before and non of them were as good as my TDM. So i went looking on the internet reading tests and even rented a XT660x for a day. A BT1100 R1150r Monster EN6Versys were on my list.

Yesterday i made-up my mind, the TDM IS GONNA STAY.

The XT660x is a great bike as a second bike but that makes it to expensive.

The BT1100 is to bulky after all.

The R1150r is of poorer build quality as any Yamaha.

The Monster is expensive to maintain.

The Versys.... Is still a option for the near future.

Wifey was gettin crazy of my bike hunts, so she is happy to.

                                                                            %d comments

So after having had the tank flushed, the fuel pump cleaned, the carb cleaned and re-balanced I still have a little problem. Bike pulls really well, but at idle its spluttery. Revs make no difference either. At any speed, any gear, if I feather the throttle and cruise, ie not accelerate and not on the over-run, then the bike is spluttery and jumpy.

                                                                              Is it air leak.?

                                                                              Clogged slow running/idle jet?

I'm planning on putting some fuel / carb additive cleaner in to the fuel and give it a good run to see if it makes any difference.

                                                                              %d comments

I cleaned the rivets/bobbins on the disc because they were seized and not allowing the disc to "float". they were really bad so i sprayed WD40, freed them with a pair of pliers, left it overnight then cleaned very very well with brake cleaner and hey presto! i can now spin bobbins easily and the brakes now smooth as new! might be worth doing as a regular maintenance every year. hope it helps someone. DO NOT FORGET TO CLEAN THE BRAKE DISC WELL BEFORE RIDING THE BIKE!!!!!!!

                                                                                                Danke schonmal vorab. :-)

Hi, having a couple of issues. Wondering if you can help. My 1991 tdm is returning around 38mpg which I'm led to believe is less than average. Also, when engine is running at a decent temperature the bike idles around 3k rpm. I initially thought that I'd need to replace throttle cable as it appears pretty slack and worn. Made it difficult to adjust idle.

At low revs and off throttle there is a fair bit of pops and bangs. And smells like it's running rich.

Would I be right in thinking that replacing the emulsion tubes and getting carbs balanced may rectify these issues?

I give you episode 8 This time a 4TX with Cobra C4 exhausts. The German brand Cobra are wel put together, they offer their exhausts in several lenghts, these ones, with 45 cm., being the longest. Available in Stainless steel, Carbon Fiber or Titanium, shape can be round or oval. The sound is nice and deep and fits the TDM perfectly The owner opted for a complete system including stainless steel front pipes.

Sadly the day ended in tears for a few guys when we returned from filming and we wanted to get in to the parking lot. While one was braking to turn left into the parking lot, which was actually the exit (one way) The rest was expecting that they were going 100 mtrs further to the actual entrance of the parking lot.......you guessed it, three bikes collided, :-( Luckily just some cosmetic damage. The rest went smoothly and we drank coffee and had a lot of fun talking about our TDM''s and TRX''s (y)

My ride home took two days, the longest stint 9 hrs, mostly in the rain avoiding motorways when possible. i didn't have any aches, numb bum or sore wrists. The bike didnt miss a beat trying to keep up with the more modern bikes on the trip. On some roads, it was only me and the multi-strada super-moto'ing down twisty mountain passes fully loaded with luggage. Legs out, rear braking and such hooliganism :) I will now treat the TDM, no MY TDM to a proper service, including the valves. the engine sounds exactly the same as when i left, used 1.5 lts of oil, bearing in mind most of the time i was between 5-8000 revs and the engine has done 60000+ kms. My best purchases for this trip was firstly the throttle cruise control gadget. not a single twinge from my right wrist. Second, cycling shorts. The seats' comfortable enough but the shorts extended the range by several hundred miles and several hours on the seat. Thirdly was one piece waterproofs. YES, it does rain in spain!

To those that diss the Tedium, BOLLOCKS! :) :) :)

Just recently mounted this exhaust on my 1995 TDM 850 3VD (2x TRX silencers and a 4TX exhaust manifold. The previous owner had it mounted on a 4TX, so I think it should be a fine fit). I noticed there is not a whole lot of clearance between the chain and the left exhaust pipe when the bike is on its sidestand. Of course there is more clearance when I am riding it, since my weight drops the bike down and increases chain tension.

Chain clearance is set to 4.5-5cm on sidestand (no weight on it), as specified in the Haynes manual. When riding the bike, the chain doesn't hit the exhaust, so I think it is fine and will just need to be checked every now and then. Being relatively new to the TDM, I was wondering if this a common "issue" when mounting an aftermarket exhaust to the 3VD and 4TX models?

                                                                                                                          Thanks in advance!

Well - here's a little tale of the Devil in the detail:

In 1994 a friend of mine bought a Ducati 916 and a TDM850, and since the Ducati was all hyped and new, a motor journalist was going for a test drive, and I went along to the dealer, where both bikes were.

Totally misbehaved I fell in love with the TDM850 instead of the 916 - and ever since I have had a dream in the back of my head of finding one.

Last summer I found one for sale at about half the price everyone else was going for: A lot of mileage (~kilometerage?) 115K, two owners, very (I mean VERY) detailed records which showed a lot of trouble with leaking oil tank, which had been replaced several times. And - because it didn't fix the problem - the whole engine was replaced free of charge in 2000 for the first owner.

The second owner, whom I bought it from, said that he had also had the oil tank replaced, and the new one had ALSO developed a leak - BUT if he kept the oil level at around minimum, it didn't spill much oil if any.

The rear fairing was in quite bad condition, when I got the bike, so I found a decent one on eBay in Germany, and since the broker also had a cheap oil tank, I purchased it as well.

I didn't ride much last year, but when I fired it up and started riding this spring, I decided to be very careful with the oil, as I don't really fancy riding around with less than minimum oil.

I took it for a long ride, checked the oil level, toppled it op to max, and immediately it started dripping on the exhaust causing a lot of nice smelling smoke.

I decided to have a look at the 'new' oil tank, and when I removed the dip stick I noticed, that it seemed very long - and when I compared it to the dip stick on the bike, that one seemed incredibly short. In fact it was so short, that the minimum line did not really reach more than a centimetre or so into the actual tank, so I figured it is wrong and must come from a different engine.

I gave it a shot with the 'new', long dip stick, and began tapping off oil from the tank little by little. I removed almost two (!) liters of oil, before it reached down to the max line.

                                                                                                                              %d comments

There are bike build-offs, stuntshows, the whole lot. Every year about + 100.000 visitors pass through the gates. There will be some stiff competition and i don't expect to win any prices, bit the fact that they asked me to bring my bike is good enough for me (y)

I'm the lucky owner of a '97 4tx. I'm thinking of changing my OEM muflers for some with a little more and deeper Sound. The ideal change would be to a Lazer ProStock set. But it was taken of the market only this year :-( .

They have to be short like the original ones and in chrome or steel finish. And naturally street legal. It would be a bonus if the system fits with a centerstand fitted on the bike, but it's not of great importance.

                                                                                                                                  My questions :

Does anybody know of a Lazer ProStock set (left+right mufler + collector/Y-piece) in Stock at a dealer or privat person somewear ?

A possible alternative could be a set from BlackWidow. 230 or 300mm long. But I have no clue about the quality, sound or how it looks on the bike. Haven' t found any fotos of it fitted on the bike. I don't want the cans to go further back than to the rear axel bolt/nut.

Has any of you got experience or fotos with this system?

I have a wonderful TDM 850 (4TX - 28199 - E5). It has been in our family since it first got in the road back in 2002. Now after 13 years and 65000 kilometers it is time for changing the timing chain (it makes a rattling noise). I have asked a few mechanics around Athens and they all say that getting all the parts (chain tensioner, time chain guide etc) for the YAMAHA dealership it would be around €300. On top of that it is time for changing engine oil, oil filter and clutch cable. So the final cost of just the parts for the service is almost €400!!!

Can anyone suggest a good internet site where I could get at least some of these parts in order to save some cost? I have just recently changed tired, braking pads and re painted part of the fairing so spending that much money isn't easy /:

O que me causou estranheza e não sei se é normal nessa moto, é que, o guidão quando está totalmente alinhado pra frente, ele fica como se tivesse travado...ou seja...duro como se quisesse manter o alinhamento,....agora se virar um pouco pra direita ou pra esquerda....ele fica mole de novo. Isso é normal nas TDMs ?

I actually was only looking for the plastic part but got it all, and now I'm considering changing the whole thing. But.....

My own has corresponding/equal light and bulbs (old P45-type) in both sides and the 'new' one has H4 on the left side and H1 on the right side.

Can I switch the whole assembly with no (or small) modifications to the wiring? And will it provide better or worse lighting than my two P45s?

Any experience with the different configurations - and advise on changing between them?

I've just spent the last little while going through all of this group's photos, it's quite interesting to see how people have altered Yamaha's original look to create their own version of "perfection".

I noticed too, hat single-side exhaust systems are quite rare on a TDM, but the original designer did so well integrate the exhaust with the overall look that you don't necessarily notice when a pipe is missing.

The best thing I noticed was how many photos there are of beautiful women, some wearing very little, sitting astride a TDM, these photos, I feel, there should be more of!! :-)

Then had it fully serviced, oil, plugs, filters etc, and a new clutch and had the carb deep cleaned.

So one of the jets apparently fell out in the ultrasonic cleaner and then when the carb was re-assembled part of the float assembly had a hole in it so petrol leaked everywhere.

It took over 3 weeks for the part to arrive.

I picked up the bike today.........

The indicator had been snapped off,

Part of the fairing was broken

                                                                                                                                                    AND.......it now runs lumpy.

My bike shows symptoms of badly needed valve ajustment. It's got 46k miles on the clock, and i don't know the last time the valves was checked. The right cylinder is dropping out constantly when the rpms are low,and coughs at idle. But when I try to remove the timing bolt and the plug in the middle, they will not move at all. Have sprayed them several times, but no luck. Is it possible to just leave the bolts in,and find tdc by looking at the cams position while rotating the rear wheel? And do I need to drain the oil before a valve-job? The bike is a 3vd 91 model,180° crank.

                                                                                                                                                      Cheers

Ok guys. My 3VD is driving me crazy. Around 75 mph cruise it hesitates and stutters hard. If I give it more throttle it clears up, but I cant drive 100 mph everywhere. It has new FP emulsion tubes, float levels have been set to 14mm, then to 12mm to see if that helped...it didnt. I have gone through everything and I cant figure it out. She has had her valves adjusted and also has an electric fuel pump.

                                                                                                                                                        Any ideas?!?!

Edit: forgot to mention that when pull the choke to the first light setting while it is doing it's jerky stuttering, it clears completely up. This makes me thing it is almost certainly a fueling issue.

I promise not to spam your group, and will only ever post tdm related posts! Lightenupgrade make led conversion kits for bike clocks, and I'm looking at doing a kit for the tdm. Would anyone here have a spare set of clocks I could borrow (doesn't matter if they work or not, so long as they are intact) once I have finished, they will be returned to you with a free kit in a colour of your choice. If you want to see the sort of effect you could expect, follow the link below, and have a look through my page, or simply type "lightenupgrade" into an eBay search to see all the models currently catered for.

I'm in need of someone with a more technical eye than I have! I have my bike, 1993, now for over a month and have some questions concerning the oil use. Two weeks ago after 600 km the bike was empty! After having put in 800cc the bike is almost empty again after 700 km.. Is this normal use or too much? I checked the bike and found this dirty and oily spot under the engine. As it's close to the front racket I thought it might be excessive chain oiling or I have an oil leak somewhere.. Part of the oil is super thick and part of it drops off the engine. What do you guys think? Many thanks in advance!

Let me throw something else out there and see if it appeals?

We are living in a small village (200 inhabitants and 1 Auberge) called Gumieres, about 70 Kms South West of Lyon, around 850 k's from Calais, 700 K's from Barcalona and 400 from Turin, on the border of the Rhone Alpe and the Loire valley (lovely part of the world with some fantastic biking roads).

We were thinking that for next year we would like to open up our garden and summer kitchen for bikers, either ones who want to stay for a week or so to explore the area, or for those just passing through (one nighter's).

Let me say first off that we are not a registered campsite or B&B or anything like that, the place we live in is part of an old building that was once upon a time a restraint / bar and in the 70's had a motel style extension built onto the back of it. This has now been converted into 5 individual apartments but the ground floor level has a kitchen/ dining area, showers, toilet, outdoor covered dining area, secure parking (where our bike currently resides) and ample green grass for pitching tents. By next Year we should also have our own micro brewery up and running ( we've only just started it).

This area also hosts summer camps, around 3 a year and theatre camps for kids and adults from the nearby towns and from Lyon, these camps are hosted by the owners of the complex who live in one of the apartments here as well as them working with their full time jobs.

Like I said, this is not an established campsite or holiday resort but maybe if enough people were to show an interest then something more regular could be organised in the future.

As regards cost, we were looking at charging around 10 Euro per tent per night, with a maximum of 6 - 8 bikes, if people wanted a cooked meal it would be around 15 Euro per person ( 2 courses inc wine) or 5 Euro per head to use the fully equipt kitchen ( cooking your own food),there is also a BBQ, the toilets and showers would be free. (washing machine and dryer are also available to use as are the fridge / freezers.

I must confess, I have been thinking of getting another bike for a while now as we ride quite a bit of dirt roads so was considering either a 1200GS or a KTM 950/990,, this last weekend we did around a 1000km tour about a 50/50 ratio of tar and dirt,, so here's the thing,, I borrowed a KTM 950 to see if I liked it enough to buy one,, good bike BUT,, the engine is noisy to the point that I thought the cam chain would snap, the wind hit's you hard above 90k/ph and it's not comfortable,, on Monday morning I got back on my TDM which has been customised for riding dirt roads with extended screen for the wind etc,, guess what,, they can have their KTM's,, I would never sell my TDM to get one,, all I need are progressive springs for the suspension and I think I will have the ultimate bike,, long live TDM's !!

Motor schnurrt in allen Lastbereichen 1A.

                                                                                                                                                                            Also:

Or could it be the filter in the tank that's blocked??

But I wonder why the text also includes it will cost me my normal text charge TOO , do these massivley rich corporate phone companies need my 12 pennies ,MORE than the people hit by this typhoon. Can they not afford to give there 12p charge away or would that go against the increasingly emmoral values of big business. SHAME SHAME SHAME , I just don't understand that to help disaster hit people it will also fill the pockets of rich corporations
